Leading engineering and specialist construction company, Merit Holdings Limited, has won a contract to construct a one storey factory unit including the development of a biodiverse “Sedum” grass roof for the UK’s oldest cosmetics manufacturer, John Gosnell & Co and Sheppard Piling won the project to install 340 piles run over a contracted period of 4 weeks.
Due to the reported ground conditions of soft Alluvium and Lewes nodular chalk we proposed the use of Continuous Flight Auger bored piles which are constructed using a hollow stemmed auger to a maximum pile depth of 14m and a pile diameter of 300mm. Once the design depth has been reached the augers are extracted from the bore whilst concrete is pumped under pressure and the pile reinforcement inserted into the bore to complete the pile.
